Masters and/or a PhD Position opportunity in the Division of Immunology (Allergy Research Group), University of Cape Town.

Eligibility Criteria:

PhD position

  • We seek to attract a highly ambitious, motivated person with good work ethic
  • Must have a Master’s degree in Biological Sciences/Medical Sciences (e.g. Immunology, Biochemistry, Veterinary Science, Microbiology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology)
  • Candidates with previous animal handling experience and basic immunological techniques such as multi-colour flow cytometry, ELISA, RT-PCR, immunofluorescent microscopy, cell sorting, will be favourable
  • Ability to work independently and ability to learn new things

MSc position

  • We seek to attract a highly ambitious, motivated person with good work ethic
  • Must have an Honours degree in Biological Sciences/Medical Sciences (e.g. Immunology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology)
  • Candidates with Honours in upper class or second upper class or internship experience will be preferred
  • Basic immunological techniques such as ELISA, PCR, cell culture.

Value and Duration of Award:

  • A 3-year stipend of R100 000 per annum for PhD position or 2-year stipend of R70 000 per annum for MSc position is secured, with possibilities of top-up through supervisor or student initiated grant applications.
  • Laboratory space and sufficient operational funds for the project is availability
  • Candidates will be hosted in the Cytokines and Infectious Disease Laboratory in ICGEB and IDM, Division of Immunology, University of Cape Town, South Africa.
