The Lagos State Chapter of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria has commenced an awareness campaign tagged: “Operations Show Your Permanent Voter Cards” for its members.
Alhaji Mohammed Musa, chairman of the chapter on Monday, led other executive members to the campaign and undertook a verification exercise for hundreds of members at Ikorodu-Epe and Ojo Zone II Secretariat.
He urged those who had not collected their PVCs to do so before January 2019 deadline to avoid sanctions from the union.
He said: “We will not allow any of our members to sit down without collecting their Permanent Voter Cards.
“Our union believes that the only way we can vote in leaders we want and vote out those we believe are not for the masses is by having PVCs.
“The weapon we have is only the PVC, which is why it is very important for every member to have it ready before January 2019.”
Musa who came with some PVCs meant for distribution added that the exercise would be repeated soon to allow its over 30,000 members vote.
He said: “By January, I will still call for this same verification exercise, any member who does not have PVC will lose his position in the union. As an association with over 30,000 members, we know where we belong.”
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the awareness campaign began on Thursday RTEAN members from Surulere and Ojo Zone I.
