The Peoples Democratic Party has disowned the purported primary election said to have been held for the Kogi East Senatorial District which produced a serving lawmaker at the National Assembly, Sen. Atai Aidoko as the winner through affirmation.

According to a statement issued in Lokoja on Wednesday and signed by the Returning Officer, Hon. Sam Abenemi, the State Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Faruk Yahaya, and the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Bode Ogunmola, the party said no primary election was held to return a senatorial candidate for the eastern senatorial district.

The party said after due consultation with the electoral officials from Abuja, the Returning Officer, and state officials of the PDP, it was resolved that the MoU allegedly signed by the PDP with rAPC Senators is not applicable to the Eastern Senatorial District, thus does not allow for any affirmation as demanded by the officials from Abuja.

“The Party in Kogi State, therefore, wish to draw the attention of the general public to disregard the purported primary election, stating that the party’s apex leaders in persons of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, Capt. Idris Wada from the district were all in Idah yesterday, and that there was no election.

“The PDP, therefore, call on it members to remain calm as efforts are being made to redress the issues surrounding the purported election and the announced result,” the statement noted.
