Kayode Eyes First Ever UCL Start As Shakhtar Face Former Club Man City

Nigeria striker Olanrewaju Kayode is set for his first ever start in the UEFA Champions League as Shakhtar Donetsk host his former club Manchester City in a Group F clash tonight.

Kayode joined Ukrainian champions Shakhtar on a permanent deal for 2.7 million pounds in July from City, whom he did not play a single match for.

The English champions bought him from Austria Wien for 3.4 million pounds in August 2017 but he was immediately loaned out

to Girona where he struggled before initially joining Shakhtar on loan.

The Super Eagles star made his Champions League debut in the 2-2 draw at Lyon on 2 October and has made four appearances in the Ukrainian Premier League this season.

Kayode, 25, missed Shakhtar’s first six matches of the season through injury but made his first league start on Friday.
However, that start was marred by a 65th minute red card in the 1-0 home win over Desna which kept the champions on top of
the table.

Kayode might be new to the Champions League but he is not new to the Europa League, where he appeared 12 times for Austria Vienna (including qualifying rounds) and scored five goals.

Shakhtar are third in Group F with two points from their first two games but they could go top of the group with a win over City, who are currently second.
