Governors Announce N22,500 As New Minimum Wage

State governors have offered to pay a sum of N22,500 as minimum wage to workers across the country.

This comes amid the lingering impasse with organised joint labour unions led by the Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) who have demanded N30,000 for the least paid worker.

According to a statement by the of the Governors Forum, Governor Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar, the governors reached the conclusion based on their ability and capacity to pay.

The governors’ offer was made on the day labour unions across the country embarked on  a sensitisation campaign ahead of a scheduled nationwide industrial action from November 6.

Labour leaders posit that if the government fails to meet their demands by November 6, they would embark on the indefinite that will cripple the economy.
