Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State on Monday morning swore in 27 Local Government Areas’ chairmen who won the local polls on Saturday.
This is coming less than 12 hours that the chairman of the Imo state Independent Electoral Commission, Ethelbert Ibebuchi, declared the All Progressive Congress candidates winners of all the council seats.
APC equally won 636 councillorship positions, while the Accord, Kowa, Rebuild Nigeria, and People’s Redemption Party won four seats.
Elections in four wards were declared inconclusive because of what Ibebuchi described as electoral irregularities.
Swearing the council bosses in, the governor said that their electoral victory came with bigger responsibility from the party and the electorate.
According to Okorocha, the success of the election was a pointer that democracy was being entrenched in the grassroots in the state.
He urged the new chairmen to be dedicated to their mandate and to ensure that all the APC candidates won in the 2019 general elections, especially president Muhammadu Buhari.
One of the new chairmen, Jude Mbachu, from Isiala Mbano LGA said they would support the campaign for Buhari’s reelection.
