A former Governor of Plateau State, Ambassador Fidelis Tapgun, has said General Olusegu Obasanjo’s endorsement on Atiku Abubakar’s candidature as presidential flag bearer, under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is a springboard to winning the 2019 presidential election.
Tapgun stated this while reacting to the state of the nation, saying that Atiku’s fence mending with Obasanjo could not have come on a better time as this.
“Obasanjo’s endorsement is very significant; he has worked with Atiku for eight years, although as human beings they have their ups and downs and it lingered for too long and for all this period, he has said he will not support Atiku for anything but as God may have it, things turned around;
more so that everybody is tired of Buhari including the former military leaders, all of them are saying that Buhari must go. So for the interest of this country Obasanjo has to let his grievances go by doing what he has done.
“The military cannot be ignored in the politics of this country because they have stayed in power for a very long time and have created a lot of institution.
If you ignore them you will run into a lot of trouble and I believe that was why everything was done to get Obasanjo to support the candidacy of Atiku”.
Tapgun who is also a former Minister of Industry under the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, also frowned at the just concluded Local Government elections in Plateau State, saying that “there were no elections, the APC only announced a doctored result.
“Where there elections? There were no elections as far as I am concerned. They declared their own results. The results of the elections that were conducted were not declared.
From all the evidences on ground PDP worn all the elections but this is not strange because this is what all the governors do, they use the State electoral body at their disposal.
This is why at the National conference in 2014 we have said that the state electoral body should be abolished, because it is not helping the advancement of democracy in this country.
It is what the governors want that they do. Be it APC or PDP you can never see the opposition win in any state where they are in power”, Tapgun said.
