Eight killed in nomad raid on Chad village

Eight people have been killed in eastern Chad in a clash between nomads and a village of farmers, police told AFP Friday.

Horsemen from a nomadic Arab tribe that raises livestock attacked Chambole, a village near the city of Abeche, late on Thursday, resulting in “eight deaths including an old woman,” a police officer said.

The violence followed similar clashes last month in nearby Guire in which at least five people were killed.

Conflicts between sedentary farmers in villages and nomads, belonging to different ethnicities, are frequent in Chad.
