CP seeks support of journalists to reduce crimes in Plateau
Austin Agbonlahor

The Commissioner of Police in Plateau, Mr Austin Agbonlahor, on Friday, has sought the cooperation of journalists to reduce criminal activities to the barest minimum in the state.

Agbonlahor made the request in Jos when he visited officials and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau Council, at the union’s secretariat.

The commissioner of police said that if the police and journalists work in harmony, it would help in the promotion of peace and peaceful coexistence.

According to him, a synergy between the two will also curb unnecessary frictions between journalists and the police force.

He praised journalists in Plateau for being responsible in their reportage, noting that within his short stay in the state, he had not witnessed any form of rancour with journalists.

Agbonlahor, who assumed office on Oct. 9, said that his doors were open to journalists at all times.

He gave an assurance that all necessary information needed by newsmen from the police would be provided by the command to enable reporters disseminate accurate information to the public.

Mr Paul Jatau, Chairman, NUJ Plateau Council, thanked the commissioner for the visit, which he described as timely.

Jatau assured the police boss that journalists in the state are professionals and responsible people, who would always cross check their facts before publishing their stories.

The NUJ chairman, however, called on the police commissioner to prevail on his men to give journalists the needed support to carry out their legitimate duties.
