Barcelona’s 100 percent start to the season was halted yesterday when Girona visited the Camp Nou. The LaLiga champion had taken the lead through club’s captain, Lionel Messi, in the 17th minute before one of their players was sent off for a horror tackle.
The tackle prompted the referee to call for VAR and after much consultation with the VAR, he rightfully brandished the defender a red card and Barcelona were reduced to 10 men.
Girona went on to equalize just before the half time break and also took the lead midway into the second half.
Barcelona however, pulled level through their defender, Gerard Pique and should have won the match when Courtinho was found unmarked with only the keeper to beat with virtually the last kick of the match. He however, went on to sky his effort.
Their goalkeeper, Marc Ter Stergen, is of the opinion that they got a fair result considering that they finished the match with 10 men and didn’t lose.
See what he said:
Of course we had another objective last night, but with the given circumstances the draw is an ok result. We continue unbeaten in the league, which is important. Wednesday we go again…Força Barça! 💪🏻🔵🔴#BarçaGirona pic.twitter.com/QhH06CIpRz
