Ariana Grande has paid tribute to the American rapper Mac Miller, who died on Friday at the age of 26.

The 25-year-old pop star, who used to date Miller, posted a black-and-white picture of the rapper on Instagram.

The picture, which appears to have been taken by Grande and did not include a caption, shows Miller looking up into the camera while sitting on a patch of grass.

Miller, real name Malcolm McCormick, died in Los Angeles following a suspected overdose.

He was found unresponsive after a friend called for an “immediate dispatch” for a patient in cardiac arrest, according to a 911 call.

Grande and Miller dated for two years and split up in May this year.

Three weeks later, she became engaged to actor and comedian Pete Davidson.

Miller is said to have supported Grande through the aftermath of the Manchester terror attack in May 2017 and appeared with her on stage a month later at the One Love benefit concert.

After ending their romance, Grande referred to their relationship as “toxic” because of Miller’s use of drugs.

Miller was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence just weeks after he and Grande broke up, and when a fan tried to blame the pop star for the incident, she shared a public message.

She said: “I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be.

“I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety and prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming/blaming women for a man’s inability to keep his s*** together is a very major problem.”

Describing his relationship with Grande in 2016, Miller told People: “We hung out for a long time and everything just happened organically.

“We love making music together – we do that always. But she’s my best friend in the world.”

Miller, who was scheduled for a video shoot on the day of his death, died just weeks after the August release of his fifth studio album, Swimmingly.
