Yemi Osinbajo: Nigeria must be saved from corruption
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Sunday restated that pervasive corruption remained the major problem that country must be saved from, calling on well-meaning Nigerians to be irresolute in fighting corruption wherever they found themselves.

Noting that it was not unexpected for corruption to fight back, Osinbajo said regardless the opposition, attacks, the President Muhammadu Bulari led administration and all Nigerians must be ready to contend with the forces of corruption that gripped the nation.

This was contained in Osinbajo’s charge at Sunday’s service of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Jesus Embassy Parish, Ibadan.

He likened the battle against corruption to the fact that Satan would usually resist and fight everything good, productive and fruitful in any individual’s life.

Consequently, he charged Nigerians, especially youths, to shun making comments and making comments on social media, but be keen to investigate information they get and get involved in driving the needed change in the country.

“If you are waiting for God to come down and change our nation, we will die in famine and hunger. This is because God has equipped you and I with everything to make a difference.

“No change happens overnight. In fact, when you want to be fruitful, productive, work in your destiny, the first thing you encounter is resistance of the devil.

“Everything that is good, Satan wants to resist you, wants to fight you, let alone you want to change a nation. You want to fight corruption. There is nothing they won’t do, there is nothing they won’t say just to make sure you don’t get there.

“Even in a small office where they are taking bribe, and you say no, you are already the enemy of everybody and there is nothing they won’t do to take you out of the place because you are light in the place.

“You do something, people criticize you and ask if it will ever work. I ask them to calm down. We are here by the power of God and with a mandate, so we cannot fail.

“Don’t let us be deceived, don’t let us lose focus, our country needs to be saved from corruption, mainly. The major problem in our country is corruption. Nigerians are hardworking, but everywhere you look, you see corruption. Once you fight it, they will fight you back bitterly, in every possible way.

“But you must be ready to contest in that space, you must be ready. It is pervasive and you must fight it because it is righteousness that exalts a nation. The only way we can be exalted as a nation is through righteousness and you and I have to enforce righteousness.

“No matter what anybody says, no matter the attack, you must fight corruption. We are salt, and a little quantity is enough. Nothing happens overnight. When you want to be fruitful, productive, the first thing one encounters is resistance,” Osinbajo said.

In his exhortation, Assistant Pastor, RCCG, Oyo Province 21, Pastor Jide Ojurongbe harped on the need for people to be fruitful so as to be responsible to their families, communities and the nation at large.

The service was attended by men of God to include Pastor Charles Obasa, Pastor Wale Popoola, Pastor Segun Olatunji and President, Christian Association of Nigeria, Oyo State, Pastor Benjamin Akanmu.
