A 23-year-old Nigerian footballer, Ekundayo Ebenezer Mawoyeka, has been confirmed dead after suffering a cardiac arrest during a match in the Turkish league.
Mawoyeka, who played for Sarayköyspor, reportedly collapsed in the 35th minute of his side’s match against Yeşilköyspor at the Servergazi Stadium over the weekend.
The striker was rushed to the Servergazi State Hospital, but he did not make it as he was confirmed dead hours later.
Reacting to the shocking death, the Denizli Amateur Sports Clubs Federation President, Feyyaz Ceşen, wore Mawoyeka’s jersey in tribute to the player as he expressed their deep sadness.
