The Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, says it has produced over 120,000 graduates who are performing outstandingly in all works of life in the institution’s 40 years of existence.
Mr Samuel Sogunro, Rector of the Polytechnic, made this known at a press briefing to mark the polytechnic’s 40th anniversary, tagged: ‘Lofty at Forty’.
Sogunro said among eminent personalities who graduated from the institution were Mrs Yetunde Onanuga, Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Mr Bisi Onasanya, former Group Managing Director, First Bank Nigeria.
“Kunle Afolayan, actor, film director and award-winning icon, Adekunle Kosoko (aka Adekunle Gold), music star, Mr Ayo Gbeleyi and Mr Sikiru Oyefeso, former Commissioner of Finance, Lagos State.
“Mrs Funmilayo Babington-Ashaye, Managing Director, Staco Insurance Plc, Former Managing Director, Cornerstone Insurance, Tunji Afolayan, cinematographer and winner of Africa Movie Viewers’ Choice.
“Olakunle Akinrinade, award-winning investigative reporter and Head, Crime Desk, Nation Newspaper and the late thespian, Aisha Mohammed, among others,” he said.
Sogunro announced that Miss Omosalewa Babalola of the School of Applied Science, who emerged the best graduating student the school had ever produced, had been engaged as a staff of the polytechnic.
He said that Babalola graduated with the cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.0 on a scale of 4.0 in 2014/2015 academic session.
According to him, LASPOTECH Alumni, apart from hoisting the flag of the institution as its ambassador, also provide a platform to exhibit appreciable individual and collective contributions.
“The body recently donated computers and printers to the polytechnic to support human capacity and thereby improving the work environment.
“Mr Bisi Onasanya, recently completely rehabilitated the Accountancy Laboratory to functionality and this has brought advancement to the institution, while there is always room for improvement.
“I can say with confidence that the alumni of the institution are strong pillars in all sectors of the economy, especially in the insurance and banking industries and other works of life, ” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that LASPOTECH, formerly Lagos State College of Science and Technology, was established with the promulgation of Lagos State Edict No. 1 of 1978 with retroactive effect from June 1, 1977.
