For stealing bunches of plantain, a 39-year-old man, Wasiu Lekan, was on Wednesday sentenced to six months imprisonment by an Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife.
Magistrate Habibat Basiru who delivered the judgement , said since Lekan had pleaded guilty to the one count charge of stealing bunches of plantain and a bag of cocoyam preferred against him, the court had no option than to sentence him accordingly to serve as deterrent to others.
Basiru however gave the convict an option of N20,000 and warned him to desist from committing crimes after serving his prison term.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Emmanuel Abdullahi, had informed the court that on Feb 8, 2019, Prince Oriade Akeem reported the matter at “C” Division Agaun Police Station, Ile-Ife.

He added that the complainant reported the incident for proper investigation, which led to the arrest of the convict.
The prosecutor stated further that the convict stole bunches of plantain valued N21,000 and a bag of Cocoyam valued N15,000.
