The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is responsible for issuing bonafide Nigerians international passports. The Nigerian International passport is a means of identification and a travel document for traveling in and outside Nigeria. Certain documents are required for the application for international passport in Nigeria. Without providing these documents, you cannot obtain this important document in the country. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT APPLICATION IN NIGERIA
The documents required for international passport in Nigeria depend on the type of international passport you want to apply for. There are three types of international passport issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service. They are
- Standard Passport
- Official Passport
- Diplomatic Passport
We will focus only on the documents required for Standard International Passport application. There are two types of Standard International Passport application. They are
- Fresh or First Application
- Re-Issuance of Passport
REQUIREMENTS FOR FRESH INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT APPLICATION
There are three categories of application for international passport depending on the type of citizenship held by the applicants.
- Citizenship by Birth
- Citizenship by Naturalization
- Citizenship by Registration
CITIZENSHIP BY BIRTH
There are two types of applicants under this category:
- Adults (18 years and above)
- Minor (under 18 years of age)
REQUIREMENTS FOR ADULT APPLICANTS
- For identification you need any one of the following:
- An identification letter from your Local Government or your state of origin or the state where you reside.
- Your National Identity Card.
- An introduction letter issued to you as an employee of the government as a citizen of Nigeria. This letter should state applicant’s Service Number, designation or rank and your length of Service. A valid staff identity card must accompany this letter.
- A completed standard international passport application form.
- Two passport photographs with endorsement by the guarantor at the back.
- A complete guarantor’s form that has been signed by a Commissioner for Oaths. A photocopy of the data page of the Nigerian ePassport of the guarantor and a passport photograph of the guarantor.
- Marriage certificate where it is applicable.
- Birth Certificate or Declaration of Age with a passport photograph that attached to it. This should also be endorsed by a Commissioner for Oaths.
- Evidence of payment and acknowledgment slip.
REQUIREMENTS FOR MINOR APPLICANTS
- A completed standard international passport application form with a passport photograph of the applicants attached to it. The passport photograph should be signed by the parent or guardian of the minor on the reverse side.
- Evidence that applicant is a Nigerian or has Nigerian parents.
- Birth Certificates (for minors born in Nigeria, the certificate must be have been issued by the National Population Commission.)
- Consent letter from either of the parents
- Evidence of payment and acknowledgment slip.
- For adopted children, an approval letter from State Ministry of Women and Child Development and a court order is strictly required.
CITIZENSHIP BY NATURALISATION
- Applicant’s certificate of naturalisation issued by the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
- A completed standard international passport application form.
- Two passport photographs with endorsement by the guarantor at the back.
- A complete guarantor’s form that has been signed by a Commissioner for Oaths. A photocopy of the data page of the Nigerian ePassport of the guarantor and a passport photograph of the guarantor.
- Marriage certificate where it is applicable.
- Data page of previous international passport or birth certificate. This is to serve as a proof of applicant’s age.
- Evidence of payment and acknowledgment slip.
CITIZENSHIP BY REGISTRATION
- Applicant’s certificate of registration issued by the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
- A completed standard international passport application form.
- Two passport photographs with endorsement by the guarantor at the back.
- A complete guarantor’s form that has been signed by a Commissioner for Oaths. A photocopy of the data page of the Nigerian ePassport of the guarantor and a passport photograph of the guarantor.
- Marriage certificate where it is applicable.
- Data page of previous international passport or birth certificate. This is to serve as a proof of applicant’s age.
- Evidence of payment and acknowledgment slip.
NIGERIAN INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT APPLICATION FEES
To get your international passport in Nigeria it is not enough to meet all the requirements; you also need to pay fees.
FRESH STANDARD INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT APPLICATION FEE
There two types of international passport booklet.
- The 32 pages booklet and
- The 64 pages booklet.
32 PAGE BOOKLETS
AGE (0 TO 17 YEARS)
- Passport Booklet Fee – 8,750 Naira
- Address Verification Fee – 2,000 Naira
- Total – 10,750 Naira.
AGE (18 TO 59 YEARS)
- Passport Booklet Fee – 15,000 Naira
- Address Verification Fee – 2,000 Naira
- Total – 17,000 Naira.
AGE (60 YEARS AND ABOVE)
- Passport Booklet Fee – 8,750 Naira
- Address Verification Fee – 2,000 Naira
- Total – 10,750 Naira.
64 PAGE BOOKLETS
- Passport Booklet Fee – 20,000 Naira
- Address Verification Fee – 2,000 Naira
- Total – 22,000 Naira.
