Last night, Luka Modric brought an end to a decade-long duopoly of football’s greatest specific prize, by claiming FIFA’s Best Men’s Gamer of the Year.
The Croatia midfielder ran out as a resounding winner at the Royal Festival Hall, with 29.05% of the votes.
Captains and managers of nations from around the world were asked to pick three players for the award, and the full list of votes were published shortly after Monday’s ceremony had concluded.
Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi, who surprisingly didn’t make the top three, voted for Modric, Kylian Mbappe and rival Cristiano Ronaldo in that order.
Ronaldo, however did not repay the favour, as he voted for Raphael Varane, Modric and Antoine Griezmann.
