League leaders travel to Sheffield Wednesday in local derby having lost to Birmingham City in the previous round
The EFL Championship – the second tier in England’s footballing pyramid – is beginning to take shape after nine rounds in the race to reach the promised land of the FA Premier League. The 10th round kicks off this Friday (28 September) with the local derby between Sheffield Wednesday, before Middlesbrough and West Brom both look to pick up wins on the road the following day to keep pressure on the table toppers.

Where should I be investing my money?
First up is that derby between Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds. The visitors sit top of the pile on goal difference with 18 points, but slipped up last time out at home to Birmingham City, losing their first league game of the season 2-1, and will now be looking for a reaction against a local rival.
By way of comparison, Sheffield Wednesday have struggled for consistency and sit 10th with four wins from nine league encounters. They can however come into this game brimming with confidence having won 2-1 away to Aston Villa last time out.
But it is visitors Leeds who come in as the favourites to take the points. You can more than double your money by backing the league leaders to win at 2.20, with Sheffield Wednesday out at 3.50 to win their second league match in a row – the same price as a draw.
However, given their recent victory and the fact they have the home crowd behind them, we are backing Wednesday to cause an upset. A 2-1 win for the Sheffield side comes in at 12.00, thereby offering more than a ten-fold return on any investment.
Middlesbrough looking to snatch top spot
Also on 18 points at the top of the table is Middlesbrough, who will be looking to snatch first place when they take on Hull on Saturday afternoon (29 September). Boro have the best defensive record in the division, conceding just three goals so far at a hugely impressive rate of only 0.33 goals per game.
Home side Hull are in desperately poor form, having won just one of their last five league games and they sit a single point above the relegation zone. The last time Boro played at Hull they left with a 3-1 win, back in October 2017, and they will be confident of picking up another victory on this occasion.
And it is visitors Middlesbrough who come into this match as the favourites to take the points. You can more than double your money by backing Boro to wrap up victory at a price of 2.05, with Hull out at 3.80 to record what would be their third league win of the season as they look to climb the table and steer clear of trouble.
We are not expecting a huge amount of goals in this clash, and a 1-0 win for Boro is priced at 7.00, meaning that a US$5 bet would lead to a US$35 pay out. You could also more than triple your money by backing Middlesbrough to win to nil (without Hull scoring a goal) at a price of 3.60, and given Boro’s defensive excellence this season it looks a bet well worth making.
West Brom looking for third league win in a row
And finally, West Brom will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce when they travel to Preston North End on Saturday afternoon. The Baggies are the top scorers in the division with 22 goals, scoring at a rate of 2.44 goals per game.
Preston meanwhile sit rock bottom with just one win and five points from their opening nine games. They have lost their last three league outings in a row and morale cannot be high in the camp as high flying West Brom come to town.
And unsurprisingly it is West Brom who come into the match as favourites to make it a hat-trick of league triumphs. Again, you can more than double your money by backing the Baggies to seal the points at a price of 2.25, while Preston are out at 3.20 to pick up just their second league win of the campaign – a 2-1 win for West Brom comes in at 9.00, while you can back a West Brom victory and both teams to score combo at a price of 4.50.
