American R&B singer Ashanti may have sold over 27 million records but a group of fans didn’t care when she announced that she was holding a concert at New York’s Stony Brook University. The former Murder Inc artiste only managed to sell 24 tickets.
With tracks like Foolish, What’s Luv and Always On Time; Ashanti was one of the biggest stars in the 2000’s- becoming the Guinness World Record holder for the fastest-selling debut female album. Her 2002 album Ashanti sold 503,000 copies in the first week. Along with collaborators Ja Rule and Fat Joe, Ashanti commanded the airwaves bigly. Until this past weekend.
Scheduled to replace Teyana Taylor at the school’s Back To Brook concert, Ashanti got little promotion, leading to a mere two dozen tickets sold.
The university’s statement after the cancellation reads in part “As an organization, we do our best to host programs for students while providing diversity and inclusion. However, we have struggled to execute certain aspects. With only a week before the concert, only 24 tickets were sold to students.”
The defunct label’s archenemy 50 Cent has already taken to Instagram to mock Ashanti and Ja Rule saying, “Ashanti show cancelled after only 24 tickets sold.🤦♂️wait a minute,🤔l thought l told everybody not to F.uck with this fool.”
