Nigeria forward, Junior Ajayi, is set to return to training with his Egyptian Premier League side, Al Ahly following lengthy spell on the sidelines as a result of a knee ligament injury, reports.
Ajayi picked up the injury in Al Ahly’s CAF Champions League clash against Botswana’s Township Rollers at the National Stadium, Gabrone on July 28.
He was was replaced by Islam Mohareb in the 44th minute as the Red Devils went on to win the encounter 1-0 courtesy of Salif Coulibaly’s 82nd minute strike.
Initial tests revealed that the former Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan striker will be out for seven weeks but he has failed to recover in time from the injury.
The injury forced Ajayi to miss the start of the new Egyptian Premier League season as well as their impressive run in the CAF Champions League where they are already in the semi-finals.
“Ajayi will be back in training with his teammates at Al Ahly in the next couple of 10 days,” a reliable source close to the player revealed to Completesportsnigeria. com.
“He is getting to the end of his rehabilitation programme and all things being equal, he will return to the pitch in the next 10 days.
” He really missed playing football and working with his teammates on the pitch. He is eager to join them in training and compete as a team on the pitch.”
