2019: SDP candidate urges Nigerians not to monetize their votes

Precious Elekima, Social Democratic Party governorship candidate in Rivers on Monday urged Nigerians not to monetise their rights to vote in 2019 general elections.

Elekima made the call at the dedication of the party’s secretariat at St. Andrews Anglican Church, Diobu, Port Harcourt.

He advised eligible voters not to trade their rights for any money and to ensure that their votes counted during the elections.

He said: “Many Nigerians have been saying that their votes do not count and that is because some of them vote for the wrong leaders.

“Some of them sell their rights for money and continue to suffer in slavery, but if you vote wisely during the 2019 general election, I assure you that your vote will count.”

Elekima stated that the most critical arm of government was the legislature because it was saddled with the responsibility of protecting the resources and freedom of the people.

He said: “The national and state assemblies check and correct the wrongs in the government and force government to do the right thing if it errs.

“But, if the legislature fails to do the right thing, the people will continue to suffer the consequence.”

He promised to ensure that no Rivers indigene was jobless after six months of his tenure if elected.

He also pledged to “dissolve the marriage between criminality and government’’.

In his sermon, Vicar Boma Briggs, called on voters in Rivers not to “sell their birth rights’’ during the general elections.

Briggs said: “When a man works with God, he will have peace and success in all his endeavours.’’

The cleric urged politicians to make peace with God as well as give themselves inner peace by avoiding evil acts.
